Employment bill passes first reading in Belarusian parliament

The bill “On Amendments to the Laws on Employment” passed the first reading at a sitting of the tenth session of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the seventh convocation on 28 February, BelTA has learned. 

The draft law was submitted to the House of Representatives by the Council of Ministers. The bill provides for a comprehensive regulation of social relations in employment promotion.

In particular, the draft law provides for a fixed amount of unemployment allowance and additional requirements to be entitled to it. The bill introduces a reduced period for the unemployed and citizens who applied for employment to be registered with labor, employment and social welfare agencies. The document specifies citizens’ duties in promoting employment.

The draft law introduces job quotas for the employment of disabled persons and defines the main tasks of the State Employment Service. The norm regulating the information portal of the State Employment Service is envisaged as well. The bill strengthens control over the activities of employment agencies.

The document also expands opportunities for citizens to receive assistance from the employment agency and for employers to select personnel.
