The district borders on the Vetkovsky and Gomel districts of the Gomel region, Novozybkovsky, Zlynkovsky and Klimovichsky districts of the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation, the Gorodnyansky district of the Chernigov region of Ukraine.
The favorable geographical position of the region and the presence of transport corridors passing through its territory of the North-South and West-East directions contributes to the development of transport communications:
- the territory of the Dobrush district is crossed by the railways Gomel-Bryansk, Gomel-Bakhmach, Gomel-Krugovets;
- highway Gomel-Bryansk.
