Belarus wins 11 gold medals at World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles |

MINSK, 27 July (BelTA) – Belarusian artists won eleven gold, two silver and one bronze medals at the 14th World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles on 17-25 July, chief of the team Margarita Korzun told a press conference.
The Belarusian team included Piotr Elfimov (vocal), Pavel Nevmerzhitsky (accordion), Diana Gromova (vocal) and Palesskaya Zorachka dance group from Mozyr.
Piotr Yelfimov won five golds in the 30 and over nomination (Male Vocal Broadway, Male Vocal Contemporary, Male Vocal Open, Male Vocal Opera, Male Vocal Original Works).  |

Gomel Oblast delegation to visit Moscow in September |

GOMEL, 27 July (BelTA) – A delegation of Gomel Oblast of Belarus will visit Moscow on 1-4 September, BelTA learned from the Gomel Office of the Belarus Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The visit will be organized by the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry in line with the agreements on trade, economic, sci-tech, humanitarian, cultural and social cooperation.
The program of the visit to the Russian capital envisages a number of business-meetings at the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, bilateral meetings with Moscow-based companies, meetings with officials of the administrations of North-East and South-West Administrative Districts of Moscow.  |

First Gomselmash harvesters assembled at Belarus-China joint venture |

GOMEL, 27 July (BelTA) – The first batch of Gomselmash fodder harvesters has been assembled at Belarus-China joint venture in China’s Heilongjiang Province (administrative center Harbin), BelTA learnt from Igor Korotkevich, the head of the department for sales to the non-CIS states of Gomselmash.
A reminder, the joint venture was set up by Belarus’ Gomselmash and China’s Dong Jin Group. It operates in the same way as joint assembly productions in Russia and Kazakhstan.  |

Japanese culture exhibition to open in Gomel on 11 August |

GOMEL, 21 July (BelTA) – The exhibition “Traditions and culture of Japan” will be opened in Gavriil Vashchenko’s Picture Gallery of Gomel on 11 August, BelTA learned from the gallery’s management.
The exhibition is arranged by the Embassy of Japan in Belarus and testifies to the growing friendly ties between the Belarusian and Japanese nations. It will give Gomel residents an opportunity to get familiar with traditions and culture of the Country of the Rising Sun.  |

About 30 water sources restored in Gomel Oblast as part of EU-UNDP project |

MINSK, 18 July (BelTA) – Around 30 water sources have been restored in Belarus as part of the EU-UNDP project aimed at minimizing consequences of the Chernobyl catastrophe in Belarus, BelTA learned from Vladislav Khilkevich, Communications Associate of the UNDP Office in Belarus.
As part of the project 27 wells in five communities of the Buda-Koshelevo Region, Gomel Oblast have been restored. The wells had been chosen taking into account their mud accumulation, derived silt, lack of roofs and their proximity to elderly residents.  |

Weather accelerates harvesting pace in Gomel Oblast |

GOMEL, 19 July (BelTA) – In the next few days harvesting pace will be accelerated in the Gomel Oblast, BelTA learned from Valentin Babok, Chairman of the Agriculture and Food Committee of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee.
In his words, the abnormally hot weather makes grain rapidly lose its water content. At present the water content is as low as 8-10% in some areas. The weather can “scorch” the crops.  |

Belarus’ athletes win 50 licenses for First Youth Olympic Games |

MINSK, 19 July (BelTA) – Belarus won one more license for the First Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, BelTA learnt from press service of the national Olympic Committee.
Andrei Pikuza form Mozyr one a license in Greco-Roman wrestling. Thus Belarus has a total of 50 licenses in 22 sports. The team includes two masters of sport of international class – Ilya Chergeiko (shooting) and Irina Gul (archery), 24 masters of sport and 24 candidates to the master of sport.  |

Average salaries as large as $500 by end of 2010, Belarus President vows |

RECHITSA REGION, 16 July (BelTA) – By the end of the year the average salary in the country will make an equivalent of $500, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko told residents of the agro-town Kholmech on 16 July.
“I don’t even think that we can be ten or twenty dollars below the target. The goal has been set and we should reach it,” said the President. In his words, next year focus will be put on raising salaries of low-paid workers such as those working in agriculture, education and healthcare.  |

Belarus looks set to harvest 10mn tonnes of grain crops this year |

RECHITSA, 16 July (BelTA) – This year Belarus looks set to harvest 10 million tonnes of grain crops, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said when talking to reporters during a working trip to the Gomel Oblast.
The corn harvest may amount to 1 million tonnes. This year Belarus will have a good harvest of all crops. “If we get the harvest we expect then it will be a victory,” he said. According to the head of state, such harvest is good for the mid-term perspective.  |

Lukashenko warns against illusions about Eastern Partnership |

RECHITSA, 16 July (BelTA) – Belarusian President warned against illusions regarding the Eastern Partnership initiative. “We need to count on ourselves and on our own strength,” he said when talking to reporters during a working trip to the Gomel Oblast.
Belarus was not dying to join the EaP. “Without Belarus the EaP will turn into GUAM,” Alexander Lukashenko noted. “We never begged for that membership.  |
